HARVEY WEINSTEIN,  CEO of the largest U.S. manufacturer of tuxedos, was kidnapped in New York after having breakfast.  The kidnappers wanted $3 million in ransom.  He was recovered unharmed from a 12-day stay in a 14-foot hole in the ground.

SIDNEY RESO, an Exxon executive, was kidnapped as he left his home in a New Jersey suburb.  In an ensuing struggle with his kidnappers, Mr. Reso was shot and eventually died while in captivity.  His kidnappers demanded $18 million for the safe return of Mr. Reso.  The kidnapper and killer of Mr. Reso was a former employee of the Exxon corporation.

MARSHALL WAIS, a 79-year-old owner or Marway Steel, based in Richmond, California, was kidnapped from his home in San Francisco by two gunman.  They demanded $500,000 in ransom.

PAUL TATUM, a founding partner in the Radisson Hotel Moscow, was shot to death at a Moscow train station in November of 1996 during his kidnapping attempt.

What did all these men have in common?

They all believed it couldn't happen to them.  But it did.
